Parliamentary panel finds critical gaps in Kerala's disaster management framework
A Department-related Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs has identified significant gaps in Kerala's disaster management system, despite the state's exposure to multiple hazards including floods, landslides, coastal erosion, lightning and cyclonic events.
The committee's findings highlight deficiencies in the last-mile dissemination of early warnings, particularly affecting landslide-prone and remote areas. The report underscores the need to strengthen communication infrastructure and warning systems to reach vulnerable populations in isolated regions.
