No immediate risk to India from Russian pneumonic plague cases, says Kerala health expert

A medical expert from Kerala's health body has said there is no immediate risk to India from pneumonic plague cases reported in Russia. The expert noted that Yersinia pestis, the bacterium responsible for plague, can affect the skin, lungs, or bloodstream.
Pneumonic plague, which affects the lungs, is considered the most severe form of the disease. However, the expert's assessment suggests the current outbreak in Russia does not pose an imminent threat to Indian populations at this time.
