Kerala hit by deadly landslides as monsoon rains intensify
Kerala is experiencing devastating landslides as monsoon rains intensify across the state. The region receives approximately 3,000 mm of annual rainfall, often concentrated in uneven, high-intensity spells that have become increasingly frequent and severe.
Climate change and global warming are exacerbating the situation, leading to more extreme weather patterns. The state's geographical terrain and heavy precipitation create conditions conducive to landslides, particularly during the monsoon season when rainfall intensity peaks.
