Over 44,000 ration card holders in Kerala face exclusion from priority category after Centre directive

A Centre directive monitoring Kerala's public distribution system will result in the exclusion of over 44,000 ration card holders from priority categories. The action affects 5,370 Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) card holders representing 6,401 beneficiaries and 38,909 Priority Household (PHH) card holders covering 60,300 beneficiaries.
The directive, based on monitoring of the state's PDS operations, will impact vulnerable populations relying on subsidised foodgrains under these priority schemes. The exclusion raises concerns about food security for eligible low-income households in the state.
