Khar Police Book Housing Society Office-Bearers Over ₹4.47-Crore Property Tax Default

Mumbai police have registered an FIR against the office-bearers of Link Square Premises Co-operative Housing Society in Khar for allegedly collecting property tax from members but failing to deposit it with the BMC. The society comprises 198 shops and a restaurant on 33rd Road in Khar West.
According to the complaint filed by shop owner Siraj Qureshi, ₹2.73 crore collected towards property tax since 2019 was never deposited, resulting in total dues of ₹4.47 crore including penalties. Qureshi alleged that the office-bearers—chairman Abdul Mithiborwala, secretary Tabassum Shaikh, and treasurer Ashif Shaikh—neither held elections since the society's 2007 registration nor provided audited financial statements.
Members approached the Bombay High Court in 2025, following which an administrator was appointed to manage the mall from November 2025. Police booked the three office-bearers last month.
