Kolkata importers push Bangladesh to ease hilsa export restrictions ahead of Durga Puja

Kolkata-based fish importers are intensifying pressure on Bangladesh to relax its hilsa export ban, particularly as Durga Puja approaches. The prized fish, a staple for Bengali celebrations, faces supply constraints due to tight deadlines and delayed approvals from Bangladesh authorities.
Despite formal permissions granted, bureaucratic hurdles have repeatedly prevented full export quantities from reaching West Bengal. Importers cite consistent shortfalls in hilsa supplies, which threatens to impact festival demand during the peak season.
