Kuldeep Yadav stars in India's win over West Indies, reminds of match-winning prowess
Kuldeep Yadav delivered a match-winning performance for India against West Indies at the Greenfield International Stadium in Thiruvananthapuram, claiming four wickets for 40 runs and earning the Player of the Match award. The left-arm spinner proved instrumental in turning the game around after West Indies had built a comfortable 107-run opening partnership, providing the breakthrough India needed when he top-edged John Campbell's delivery in the 16th over.
During his spell, Kuldeep showcased his complete repertoire of bowling skills, employing tossed-up deliveries above the batter's eyeline, the wrong one, and quickish fuller deliveries to unsettle opposing batsmen. After India's eight-wicket victory, Kuldeep reflected on his performance, stating: "Personally, I liked my rhythm. Just varying the pace and trying to read the batters, where they are going to hit me." The 31-year-old emphasized the importance of such performances, noting that "sometimes to get that confidence back you need to have a spell like this."
Despite his track record since debuting in 2017—accumulating 198 wickets in ODIs at an average of nearly 27—Kuldeep has received limited match opportunities. Of India's 10 ODIs and 28 T20Is played this year, he featured in only five and four games respectively. His Test career has similarly been sporadic, with appearances in 19 matches since his debut against Australia in Dharamshala in 2017.
