BJP ally Kumaraswamy seeks Election Commission clarity on internal disagreements

Union Minister HD Kumaraswamy on Saturday called on the Election Commission to publicly clarify reports of differences among its members amid the ongoing controversy over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. Kumaraswamy, whose JDS party is aligned with the BJP, emphasized that the issue was not about the demands of any particular political party but about the Election Commission's responsibility to explain what was happening within the poll panel.
Kumaraswamy questioned the ground reality of the situation, asking what was actually occurring inside the Election Commission. He urged members to explain the difference between reports appearing in the media and the actual situation within the Commission. He stressed that the three-member constitutional body, including the Chief Election Commissioner, had a greater responsibility to clarify any differences among themselves.
Kumaraswamy's remarks come as questions over the functioning of the Election Commission have also been raised by other parties that are part of the BJP-led NDA. LJP (Ram Vilas) chief Chirag Paswan, Rashtriya Lok Morcha leader Upendra Kushwaha, and TDP leaders have sought greater clarity from the poll panel over the reported differences and the SIR process.
