Lawrence Bishnoi's Lawyer Booked for Using Fake Law Degree

Deepak Nanda alias Khatri, a lawyer associated with jailed gangster Lawrence Bishnoi, has been booked after a Class 12 marksheet he submitted for admission to a law course was allegedly found to be fake. An FIR was lodged at Rajabpur police station in Uttar Pradesh's Amroha district on September 28 following a complaint by Shri Venkateshwara University, Gajraula, where Nanda had pursued a B.A.LL.B. course. The university has also written to the Bar Council of India regarding Nanda's law degree.
The case emerged after Nanda's arrest by the Delhi Police Crime Branch in August in connection with an arms case linked to Bishnoi. During that investigation, the Crime Branch sought Nanda's educational and admission records from the university to verify his qualifications. University records indicate Nanda took admission in 2019 and completed the B.A.LL.B. programme in 2024. When the Crime Branch sent his Class 12 marksheet to the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education for verification, the Board responded on September 19 that the document could not be verified as genuine and was fake.
Following these findings, the Crime Branch communicated the results to the university through a letter dated September 23. The university subsequently filed a complaint with Rajabpur Police on September 24, alleging that Nanda had used forged educational documents to obtain admission and presented them as genuine. Sub-Inspector Rajendra Kumar was appointed as the investigating officer. Sources indicated the Jammu and Kashmir Police are likely to register a separate FIR in connection with the alleged forged certificate.
