Madras High Court Dismisses Pleas Against TN CM Vijay, Udhayanidhi Stalin Over Poll Affidavit Discrepancies

The Madras High Court dismissed writ petitions alleging discrepancies in election affidavits filed by Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay, DMK leader Udhayanidhi Stalin and BJP leader Tamilisai Soundararajan. The petitions, filed by individual voters, sought investigations by the Election Commission and Income Tax Department into alleged inconsistencies in asset and income disclosures.
The petitioners claimed Vijay's Form 26 affidavits showed conflicting movable asset declarations—around ₹105 crore in one and ₹224 crore in another. Stalin faced allegations of asset variations and non-disclosure of certain investments linked to business entities. Soundararajan's petition alleged inconsistencies in income disclosures between her 2024 Lok Sabha and 2026 Assembly election affidavits.
A division bench held that such challenges cannot ordinarily be pursued through writ proceedings under Article 226 of the Constitution, dismissing all petitions.
