Madras High Court upholds Speaker's acceptance of 6 AIADMK MLAs' resignations who joined TVK

The Madras High Court has upheld the Speaker's decision to accept the resignations of six AIADMK MLAs who switched to actor Vijay's newly-formed TVK party. The court ruled that while the resignations are valid, anti-defection proceedings against the legislators must continue.
The HC directed the Speaker to complete all pending disqualification proceedings related to the defection within two months. This ensures that while the MLAs' exit from the assembly is accepted, the legal process examining their defection from AIADMK remains active.
The ruling balances the immediate acceptance of resignations with the continuation of anti-defection law procedures, which typically examine whether a legislator's departure constitutes a breach of party discipline.
