Madurantakam by-election: Will AIADMK's bastion fall to TVK's rising sway?

Maragatham Kumaravel, a former AIADMK leader, is contesting the Madurantakam by-election as the TVK's candidate after resigning as MLA just three weeks following the 2026 assembly election results.

The by-election tests whether TVK's growing political momentum can dent the AIADMK's traditional stronghold in the constituency. Voter sentiment appears mixed, with some expressing uncertainty about their choice while others say they may not back TVK despite the Chief Minister's current popularity.

Kumaravel's switch from AIADMK to TVK underscores shifting political alignments in Tamil Nadu as newer parties gain ground against established players.
