Mamata Banerjee leads protest against hawker evictions in Kolkata

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee participated in a protest march in Dharmatala on Wednesday against ongoing eviction drives targeting hawkers between Sealdah and Howrah railway stations. Wearing a placard, she took part in a human chain alongside senior Trinamool Congress leaders including Kunal Ghosh and Dola Sen.

The demonstration signals the party's opposition to the removal of roadside vendors. Political observers view the protest as a test of the Trinamool's grassroots mobilisation capabilities on the hawker issue. The eviction drives have also prompted similar protests by Left leaders and supporters at Jadavpur railway station.
