Mamata's challenge to EC freeze on TMC name, symbol set for SC hearing this week

The Supreme Court will hear West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee's petition challenging the Election Commission's freeze on the Trinamool Congress name and symbol this week. The Chief Justice agreed to expedite the listing after senior advocate Kapil Sibal, representing Banerjee, argued that the poll panel had taken action while the factional dispute within the party remained under consideration.
The EC had frozen the TMC name and symbol amid internal party divisions. Banerjee's legal team contends the freeze was premature, with the matter still being examined.
