Manipur's crisis needs stronger state police, says ex-CM Biren Singh

In an exclusive conversation, former Manipur Chief Minister N Biren Singh denied being sidelined and characterised the state's ongoing crisis as deeply complex. He argued that the responsibility for resolving Manipur's problems should rest primarily with state-level forces, though he acknowledged that current leadership lacks a clear strategic vision.
Singh stressed that lasting peace in Manipur will only materialise when the state police force is substantially strengthened and backed by central security forces. He emphasised the need for coordinated action between local law enforcement and national agencies to address the underlying causes of unrest.
The former CM's remarks come amid continued instability in the northeastern state, which has faced prolonged communal tensions and security challenges over the past year.
