Early Test retirement for franchise cricket is concerning but understandable: MCC

The Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) has expressed concern over players retiring early from Test cricket to focus on franchise leagues, while acknowledging the difficulty of criticizing such decisions.
The comments were made during the launch of the Kannada edition of the MCC's Laws of Cricket app in partnership with the Association of Cricket Umpires Karnataka. MCC officials noted that while the trend is worrying for Test cricket's future, individual players cannot be faulted for pursuing lucrative franchise opportunities.
The issue reflects growing tension between traditional Test cricket and the expanding franchise T20 ecosystem globally.
