Microsoft set to launch Maia 300 AI chip by September
Microsoft is preparing to unveil its custom-built Maia 300 artificial intelligence chip as early as September, according to reports. The company is securing production capacity for over 300,000 chips by 2027, with eventual targets exceeding one million units.
The move is part of Microsoft's strategy to reduce its reliance on Nvidia's expensive processors for AI operations. The company aims to leverage the new chip to attract major cloud customers, including Anthropic, by offering cost-effective alternatives for large-scale AI deployments.
