PM Modi Announces ₹2 Lakh Aid for Kolkata Durga Pandal Stampede Victims

Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced financial assistance from the Prime Minister's National Relief Fund (PMNRF) for those affected by the stampede at the Chorbagan Sarbojanin Durga Puja pandal in Kolkata. The next of kin of each deceased will receive ₹2 lakh, while injured individuals will be given ₹50,000.

The stampede, which occurred during the Durga Puja festivities, claimed 17 lives and left several others injured. The incident was reportedly triggered by a crowd surge amid rain. Modi described the tragedy as "extremely distressing" and expressed his condolences to the bereaved families.

In a statement, the Prime Minister's office assured that the local administration is providing all necessary assistance to those affected. West Bengal Governor RN Ravi also extended condolences to the families of the victims, acknowledging the tragic loss of lives in the incident.
