Prime Minister Narendra Modi met and congratulated India's Asian Games 2026 contingent at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi on October 15. The interaction celebrated the athletes' performances at the Aichi-Nagoya Games in Japan.
India finished fourth in the overall medal tally with 85 medals — comprising 21 gold, 27 silver and 37 bronze. The campaign included several significant achievements, with gold medals won by both men's and women's hockey teams, strong performances in recurve archery, and breakthrough medals in disciplines including soft tennis and mixed martial arts.
The event recognised the athletes, coaches and support staff who represented India at the continental competition. Modi expressed hope that the team's achievements will serve as inspiration for future generations and help strengthen sports development at the grassroots level.
