PM Modi, Putin, Pezeshkian send strong message to Trump on global trade and US sanctions

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian met at the BRICS Business Forum Leaders' Session in New Delhi on September 11, 2026, ahead of the BRICS summit. The three leaders sent a strong message to US President Donald Trump on issues ranging from global trade to American sanctions.
The leaders emphasized greater economic cooperation, secure trade routes, and expanded use of local currencies. These remarks came amid BRICS efforts to challenge US dollar dominance globally and growing American criticism of such moves, signaling the bloc's ambitions to strengthen alternatives to the existing global financial order.
PM Modi stressed the importance of secure maritime routes and supply chains for global trade. He said, "Global trade progress is possible only when sea lanes are secure, supply routes remain open, and all seafarers are safe. India strongly supports freedom of navigation and seafarer safety."
