Modi's Slovakia Visit Signals India's Shifting European Strategy
Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Slovakia marks the first by an Indian PM to the country in 33 years, underscoring New Delhi's strategic interest in the nation and broader European dynamics.
Bilateral trade between India and Slovakia has grown significantly, reaching $1.8 billion in the previous year. Indian exports dominated at approximately $1.52 billion, while imports stood at $284 million. The two-way trade first exceeded $1 billion in 2024.
The timing of Modi's visit reflects India's assessment of Europe's current political fragmentation and its efforts to strengthen ties with individual European nations during a period of continental realignment.
