Madhya Pradesh High Court Lifts Stay on Arrest Warrant Against TMC MP Abhishek Banerjee

The Madhya Pradesh High Court has lifted an interim stay on an arrest warrant against Trinamool Congress MP Abhishek Banerjee in a defamation case. Justice Pramod Kumar Agarwal dismissed Banerjee's petition on Wednesday, vacating the stay that was granted in November 2025.
The arrest warrant was issued by a special Bhopal court in a defamation case filed by Akash Vijayvargiya, former Indore MLA and son of BJP minister Kailash Vijayvargiya. The case stems from allegations that Banerjee called Vijayvargiya a "goon" during a rally in Kolkata in November 2020.
The ruling compounds legal challenges for the TMC general secretary, who is already under investigation by the Enforcement Directorate on corruption charges.
