Mumbai Corporators Demand Water Cut Rollback Ahead of Ganeshotsav as Reservoirs Near Full Capacity

Mumbai corporators across party lines staged protests at the BMC general body meeting on Tuesday, demanding an immediate rollback of the 10 per cent water cut imposed from May 15. Despite the city's seven lakes holding 13.95 lakh million litres—nearly 96 per cent of their total capacity—several wards continue to face acute water shortages.
NCP corporator Ajit Raorane protested outside the BMC office over water scarcity in Malad's Kurar village and Dindoshi area, while BJP's Tejinder Tiwana criticized the Hydraulic Engineer's Department for refusing to address the crisis. Shiv Sena (Shinde) leader Amey Ghole questioned why the water cut persisted when reservoirs were nearly full, and alleged involvement of the "tanker mafia" in the shortage. Corporators urged the administration to honour its manifesto promise of 24-hour water supply, particularly ahead of Ganeshotsav.
