Mumbai FDA Suspends Food Licences of Hospital Canteen, Caterers Over Safety Violations

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) suspended food licences of multiple eateries, bakeries, catering units and institutional food establishments across Mumbai following inspections that uncovered serious food-safety and hygiene breaches.
Shatabdi Hospital canteen in Govandi, operated by Shetty Catering Service, was suspended after inspectors found food scraps scattered in preparation areas, dirty surfaces, accumulated water, absent water-testing records and inadequate temperature control. P R Jena Caterers in BKC faced suspension due to live flies, peeling paint, improper storage of potatoes and onions near toilets, and missing staff training records. Bakeries including New English Bakery in Girgaon and St Philomena Bakery in Mazgaon were also suspended for violations such as dough being filled on floors and uncovered products stored on dirty racks.
