Mumbai PG Landlord Installs CCTV in Common Area Without Consent, Asks Tenants to 'Dress Decently'

A social media post has raised questions about tenant privacy after a landlord in Mumbai allegedly installed a CCTV camera inside the common living area of a girls' paying guest accommodation without seeking prior consent. The landlord informed seven residents of a 3BHK PG only after the installation was complete.
The landlord claimed the camera was installed on police advice for security reasons, citing past incidents of missing belongings and unauthorized visitors. He reportedly refused a suggestion to place the camera outside instead. Residents were allegedly told to 'dress decently' in the common area, which they regularly use for eating and studying.
The incident has sparked debate over the balance between landlord security concerns and tenant privacy rights in shared accommodations.
