Major leak detected in Mumbai-III water pipeline near Thane; BMC launches emergency repairs

A significant leak has been detected in the 3,000 mm diameter Mumbai-III water pipeline near Teen Haath Naka in Thane, along the Eastern Express Highway. The underground pipeline, located 3 to 4 metres below ground level and protected by an outer casing, poses potential risks to Mumbai's water supply. Its depth and underground placement make repair work technically challenging.
Following the discovery, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) officials and workers launched emergency repair operations at the site. Teams are working to gain access to the pipeline, identify the exact source of the leakage, and execute necessary repairs. Heavy machinery, including a JCB, has been deployed for digging and excavation work.
The Mumbai-III pipeline is a critical component of the city's water supply network. BMC authorities are closely monitoring the situation as repair operations continue on priority basis to prevent potential disruptions to water supply in parts of Mumbai.
