Mumbai Rains: 50-Year-Old Man Lands in ICU After Tree Branch Falls on Him in Andheri

A 50-year-old man sustained serious injuries after a tree branch fell on him while he was walking along Nagardas Road in Andheri East on Wednesday night, adding to the growing number of rain-related tree fall incidents across Mumbai during the ongoing monsoon.
According to civic officials, the incident occurred at around 10.12 pm near DJ House, close to the Andheri subway. The injured pedestrian, identified as Aadesh Gaikar, was rushed to Cooper Hospital, where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Officials said his condition is currently stable.
Following the incident, personnel from the Mumbai Fire Brigade, Mumbai Police, BEST and the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation's (BMC) Garden Department reached the spot and launched an operation to remove the fallen tree branch and restore traffic movement in the area.
The latest incident comes amid a sharp rise in tree collapses across Mumbai as continuous heavy rainfall over the past week has weakened trees in several parts of the city. According to civic data, three people have lost their lives in separate tree fall incidents during this period, while several others have suffered injuries.
The recurring incidents have intensified criticism of the BMC's management of the city's trees. Residents and activists have raised concerns over the health of ageing trees, the impact of excessive concretisation around tree roots and the need for more rigorous inspections and preventive maintenance before and during the monsoon season.
Authorities continue to monitor vulnerable locations across the city as heavy rainfall persists, while emergency teams remain on alert to respond to rain-related incidents.
