NC legislator accuses bodyguard of attack; police file FIR for assault
National Conference legislator Altaf Kaloo alleged on Friday that his bodyguard had "grabbed him by the neck" during an altercation that arose over the officer's reported absence. According to Mr. Kaloo, his Personal Security Officer (PSO) had been absent for several days, which he formally reported to officials on Thursday. Later that afternoon, the PSO, reportedly annoyed at being reported absent, used disrespectful language and launched a physical attack, attempting to grab the legislator by the neck before other security personnel intervened.
Meanwhile, the J&K Police have filed an FIR against Mr. Kaloo for "assaulting a policeman on duty." The policeman has accused Mr. Kaloo and another NC leader of "assault," presenting a contradictory account of the incident. The legislator said he was considering "filing a counter complaint" against the policeman in response to the police action.
Mr. Kaloo has called for an inquiry, urging the DGP to "hold an inquiry and take action." He stated that "statements of several witnesses have already been recorded" regarding the incident, suggesting documented accounts exist of what transpired during the confrontation.
