NDA allies divided on Uniform Civil Code implementation plan

The Uniform Civil Code has sparked fresh debate within the NDA following Home Minister Amit Shah's announcement that all 21 NDA-ruled state governments will implement UCC before the 2029 general elections. Most coalition partners have expressed support, though some remain cautious.
Bihar's JD(U) has taken a cautious stance, stating it can support UCC at the national level but opposes its implementation in Bihar. Andhra Pradesh's TDP, with 16 Lok Sabha MPs, has backed the proposal, with its parliamentary leader Lavu Krishna Devaiah confirming party support. Shiv Sena and HAM(S) have also welcomed Shah's statement.
However, TDP's current position contrasts with its earlier stance. Before joining the NDA after the 2024 elections, CM N. Chandrababu Naidu had said the party would stand with the Muslim community on the UCC issue.
