Ten students die by suicide after NEET cancellation, trend emerges since May 14

The National Testing Agency cancelled NEET-UG 2026 on May 12 following allegations of paper leak and irregularities. The exam is now scheduled for June 21, with the CBI investigating the cancellation. Since then, multiple suicide cases have been reported across the country.
Between May 14 and June 15, at least ten students died by suicide in states including Goa, Uttar Pradesh, Delhi, Rajasthan, Karnataka, and others. Cases include a 17-year-old from Goa on May 14, a candidate in Delhi on May 15, and a student identified as Ajit Meena from Dausa, Rajasthan, who died on June 4. A 17-year-old girl in New Delhi on June 13 left a handwritten note expressing inability to meet parental expectations.
The exam cancellation has sparked nationwide protests and raised questions about the education system and the mounting stress associated with competitive examinations.
