New Zealand name ODI squad for India series; Santner to captain
New Zealand have announced their squad for the upcoming five-match ODI series against India, with Mitchell Santner named as captain. The series begins on November 4 at Eden Park in Auckland, following the five-match T20I series scheduled from October 22 to November 1. Key players including Finn Allen, Lockie Ferguson, Rachin Ravindra and Tim Seifert have been included in the squad.
Allen and Ferguson are returning to ODI cricket after last playing in the format in 2023, with Ferguson's last appearance coming in the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup semi-final against India in Mumbai. Seifert is also making a comeback after an absence of around 18 months, having last played an ODI during New Zealand's home series against Pakistan. Ravindra, who missed the T20I squad due to a shoulder injury, will be available for the first three ODI matches only.
New Zealand will make squad changes for the final two ODIs, with seven additional players joining the group. Some players will travel to Wellington after the third ODI to prepare for the upcoming Test series against India. The Blackcaps will aim to build on their strong recent form, having won the ODI series 2-1 against India in January—a historic victory marking New Zealand's first ODI series win against India on Indian soil.
