Northeast Frontier Railway Ensures Safe Delivery of Baby Aboard Avadh Assam Express

A pregnant passenger went into labour while travelling on Train No. 15910 (Avadh Assam Express) as it approached Rangiya station on June 14. Railway staff immediately coordinated with medical departments to provide emergency assistance. A medical team led by Dr. Sarat Chandra, Divisional Medical Officer of Rangiya Division, reached the station in advance.
With help from the coach attendant and Mrs. Krishnama Goldsmith Bezbaruah, a nurse from Jorhat Christian Mission Hospital who was travelling on the train, the baby was safely delivered aboard. The mother and newborn were examined by the railway medical team at Rangiya station. Since the baby was born prematurely, both were referred to Gauhati Medical College & Hospital for specialized care. Both were reported stable.
