Nilekani proposes AI-generated exams to prevent cheating; cites global practices

Nandan Nilekani, co-founder of Infosys, has proposed using artificial intelligence to generate exam papers as a measure to prevent question paper leaks, citing practices adopted globally. The suggestion comes as India reviews examination reforms following the NEET-UG paper leak controversy.
Nilekani highlighted how different countries address exam security through varied methods. He noted that China prints examination papers in prisons, while other nations maintain question banks to minimize leak risks and ensure randomised test variations across centres.
The proposal reflects growing concerns over examination integrity in India, particularly after the NEET-UG incident exposed vulnerabilities in current systems. AI-generated papers could theoretically reduce human involvement in paper preparation and printing, thereby limiting opportunities for unauthorised access or distribution before exams are administered.
