NMC mandates licence for Georgian medical graduates to practise in India

The National Medical Commission (NMC) has clarified that medical graduates from Georgia seeking to practise in India must obtain a Foreign Medical Graduate Examination (FMGE) licence, and cannot rely solely on junior doctor designation.
The ruling addresses a gap in regulatory compliance among foreign medical graduates who had been working under junior doctor status. The NMC's position reinforces that all practitioners, regardless of their previous credentials or employment status, must meet India's licensing standards before independent medical practice.
This directive is expected to impact a significant number of Georgian medical graduates currently working in Indian medical institutions and hospitals.
