ECI denies notice to Bharat Ratna scientist C.N.R. Rao over name discrepancy

The Election Commission of India has denied reports that Bharat Ratna awardee Professor C.N.R. Rao received a notice over a name discrepancy during the Special Intensive Revision of electoral rolls in Karnataka. Media reports had claimed Rao was asked to appear for a hearing due to a mismatch between his 2002 roll entry and current voter list, with allegations of an extra 'f' in "Prof" versus "Proff".
The ECI clarified that the information was "factually incorrect". According to the Commission, Rao's 2002 electoral roll entry listed him as "Rama S/O H. Nagesh", while the current roll shows "Proff. C.N.R. Rao S/O Nagesh Rav. H." The ECI stated it has not served any notice to Rao or his family, taking into account his stature and scientific contributions.
The 92-year-old scientist is a decorated researcher in solid-state and structural chemistry, with contributions spanning nanomaterials and structural chemistry research.
