North Bombay Durga Puja 2026 to recreate Kerala's Guruvayoor Shrine

Mumbai's North Bombay Sarbojanik Durga Puja, now in its 80th year, will recreate a replica of Kerala's Guruvayoor shrine to Lord Vishnu as the setting for Maa Durga's worship. The celebration, established in 1948 and associated with the Mukherjee family of Bollywood, runs from October 16 to 20.
The pandal at SNDT, Juhu Tara Road, will feature intricate craftsmanship and traditional detailing. Renowned artisans from Kolkata have been commissioned to create the Maa Durga idol in its authentic form, reflecting Bengal's centuries-old idol-making traditions. A distinctive ritual involves lifting the idol into position using a forklift.
This year's celebrations will include bhog, cultural programmes and community festivities. The puja remains a prominent part of Mumbai's festive calendar, welcoming devotees from across communities while retaining its Bengali cultural roots.
