Northeast India's handlooms shine at Delhi Fashion Week 2026

The International Reinvent Northeast – Season 8 segment became a major highlight of Delhi Fashion Week 2026, held on 27 August at ITPO, Bharat Mandapam in New Delhi. Presented by NEHHDC with support from the Northeast Council under the Ministry of Development of North Eastern Region, the event celebrated Northeast India's handlooms, weavers, women, culture and contemporary fashion.
The special presentation brought together designers, weavers and artisans from across the region to showcase traditional textiles interpreted through modern design. A key attraction was the Meghalaya presentation featuring designer Batkyntilin Mawthou and weaver Iaineh, who displayed contemporary designs using Ryndia silk, one of Meghalaya's distinctive indigenous textiles.
The event aimed to highlight indigenous craftsmanship and create opportunities through fashion, tourism and creative entrepreneurship, providing national visibility to Northeast designers and weavers.
