Northeast states push for hill-specific National Education Policy norms

Northeast states are advocating for region-specific modifications to the National Education Policy, citing geographical and infrastructural constraints. The region has approximately 80% of its schools located in hilly and difficult terrain, with about 33% of total student enrolment concentrated in these areas.
The states argue that uniform NEP implementation across the country does not account for the unique challenges faced by hill-based educational institutions, including connectivity issues, resource scarcity, and logistical difficulties. They contend that tailored norms are essential to ensure equitable access to quality education in mountainous regions.
