Centre yet to issue rejection notices to 1.9 million excluded from NRC, tells Supreme Court

The Centre informed the Supreme Court that it has not yet begun issuing formal rejection notices to approximately 1.9 million individuals who were excluded from the National Register of Citizens (NRC) published in Assam in 2019.
These rejection slips are essential documents that allow excluded persons to file appeals before foreigners' tribunals and seek remedies. The delay has left millions without the formal paperwork required to pursue their legal options against the exclusion.
The matter remains pending before the Supreme Court as the government continues to process the large backlog of rejection notices for those left out of the NRC exercise.
