October 6 By-Poll to Test 3-Month-Old TVK Government in Tamil Nadu

Tamil Nadu's three-month-old TVK government will face its first electoral test in a by-poll scheduled for October 6. The state has historically favoured ruling parties in by-elections, but the TVK enters the campaign amid coalition friction and aggressive opposition.

The government faces complex legislative mathematics and internal coalition pressures as it campaigns for the by-poll. The outcome will signal the stability and electoral strength of the newly formed administration in the state.
