Meeting PM hasn't changed Jantar Mantar protest plan for statehood: Omar
Jammu and Kashmir National Conference leader Omar Abdullah has affirmed that his party will proceed with a planned protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi demanding restoration of the region's statehood. The protest is scheduled for the opening day of Parliament's monsoon session.
This comes after Omar met with the Prime Minister. He reiterated that the meeting has not altered the party's decision to demonstrate. The party had decided on the protest during a strategy session held on June 3 at Dachigam national park in Srinagar, attended by his party's MLAs and MPs.
J&K lost its statehood on August 5, 2019, when the Centre abrogated Article 370, revoked the region's special constitutional status, and divided the former state into two Union territories—Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
