Onion prices hit ₹62 per kg as government blames middlemen

Onion prices have risen sharply to ₹62 per kilogramme, prompting the government to attribute the surge to middlemen profiteering. Farm leader Rakesh Tikait has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Mohan Yadav highlighting the disparity in the supply chain.
According to Tikait, onion farmers are receiving as little as ₹1 per kilogramme despite retail prices soaring. He has demanded immediate government intervention to address the pricing crisis and protect farmer interests.
The wide gap between farm-gate and retail prices underscores the role of intermediaries in controlling the onion market.
