Opposition demands CEC removal amid Election Commission dispute

The Election Commission of India faced mounting pressure on September 23 as opposition parties sought the removal of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar amid an internal dissent row. The dispute centres on the Commission's recent decisions and their adherence to established protocols.
The ECI responded to the controversy, asserting that all its actions have been conducted in accordance with applicable laws and the Commission's own instructions. Chief Justice of India Dipendra Singh Kumaraswamy was expected to address the matter at a press conference.
The row highlights tensions within the election body over governance and decision-making processes during a sensitive period for Indian electoral administration.
