Asaduddin Owaisi Opposes BJP's UCC Push, Says Move Targets Muslims

Hyderabad, September 14: All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) President Asaduddin Owaisi said the Bharatiya Janata Party is pushing the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in states it governs to target Muslims, not to ensure equality. Reacting to Union Home Minister Amit Shah's statement that all 21 NDA-ruled states will implement UCC before 2029, Owaisi said the move violates Articles 25, 14, 26, and 29 of the Constitution.
Owaisi said the UCC is being imposed to target India's 18 crore Muslim population. He argued that the Law Commission, set up by the Modi government itself, had stated that a UCC is neither necessary nor desirable for India. The AIMIM chief questioned why BJP-ruled states retain the Disturbed Area Act, which restricts property sales between communities, if the intention is truly equality.
