Padma Shri awardee Sunitha Krishnan's enumeration form rejected in citizenship drive

Sunitha Krishnan, a Padma Shri awardee and prominent anti-trafficking activist, has reported that her enumeration form was rejected during Assam's Systematic Identification for Rejections (SIR) process — a citizenship verification exercise.
Krishnan stated that she and her organisation had not received any formal notices during the SIR notice period requiring them to submit any of the 12 listed documents necessary to prove citizenship status. The rejection of her form has raised concerns about the process's implementation and notification procedures.
The SIR exercise is part of Assam's ongoing efforts to update its citizenship records. Krishnan's case highlights potential procedural gaps in how notices are being communicated to residents and organisations during the verification drive.
