Parliamentary panel's Supreme Court visit on simultaneous elections raises separation of powers concerns

A Joint Parliamentary Committee studying simultaneous elections has deferred plans to meet with sitting Supreme Court judges to discuss the 'One Nation, One Election' Bills, following objections from Opposition members.
Opposition MPs raised concerns about the proposed visit, citing potential violations of the separation of powers doctrine. The principle requires Parliament and the judiciary to maintain institutional independence in their respective functions.
The committee is examining legislation aimed at holding national and state elections simultaneously, a proposal that remains constitutionally significant and may face judicial scrutiny.
