Parliamentary panel flags NTA incompetence; Congress urges Modi govt action

A Parliamentary Standing Committee report has indicted the National Testing Agency (NTA) for what it characterises as "grave incompetence and malpractice," according to Congress leader Jairam Ramesh. The panel's findings catalogue nine instances of paper leaks and a revenue surplus of ₹590 crore that remained unspent despite student needs.
Ramesh urged the Modi government to take the parliamentary panel's findings seriously, describing the administration as "arrogant" for its handling of the testing body. The report underscores recurring operational failures within the NTA, which conducts major entrance examinations including NEET and JEE.
The Congress has seized on the report to criticise governance lapses and the alleged mismanagement of public resources. The unused revenue surplus particularly draws scrutiny as questions mount over resource allocation for improving examination infrastructure and student support.
