Piyush Goyal says he never raised H-1B green card issue with US

Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal clarified that he has never raised the issue of H-1B visas and green cards during his discussions with the US administration. Goyal's remarks come amid growing concerns over restrictive visa policies that affect Indian IT workers seeking employment in the United States.
Goyal characterised fewer work visas as potentially beneficial for India, suggesting that reduced reliance on foreign employment opportunities could encourage domestic talent development and create more jobs within the country.
The H-1B visa programme, which allows US employers to temporarily employ foreign workers in specialty occupations, has long been a significant pathway for Indian IT professionals. Green card restrictions have similarly impacted Indians seeking permanent residency in the US. Goyal's statement indicates the government's pragmatic approach to the issue, focusing on building domestic capacity rather than lobbying for expanded foreign work visa access.
