Commerce Minister Goyal in Tokyo to attract Japanese investment

Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal is in Tokyo to court Japanese investors and address long-standing concerns about India's investment climate. The outreach comes as India seeks to deepen economic ties with Japan and attract manufacturing partnerships.
India's profile among Japanese investors has remained relatively modest despite historical economic collaborations. The relationship traces back to the 1980s when former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi convinced Osamu Suzuki to invest in India's automotive sector, a project that became iconic in Indian manufacturing history.
The minister's visit aims to revive momentum in bilateral economic engagement and demonstrate India's commitment to creating a favourable business environment for Japanese companies.
