No need for resolution, PM committed to granting Statehood to J&K: BJP MP Tarun Chugh

Senior BJP MP Tarun Chugh on Saturday dismissed the statehood resolution passed by the Omar Abdullah government as "eyewash," asserting that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has already promised statehood for Jammu and Kashmir and remains committed to delivering it. Speaking in Jammu, Chugh termed the J&K Assembly resolution "an attempt by the NC to divert attention from people's issues" and stated there was no need for such a resolution.
Chugh emphasized that statehood has been promised by PM Modi in the Lok Sabha and the commitment remains unwavering. He criticized the National Conference for using the resolution as a shield for its "falling popularity among the people" rather than addressing development failures and broken manifesto promises. Responding to the NC's reference to the 2000 autonomy resolution, Chugh urged the party to "refrain from parroting separatist politics," arguing that such politics cannot address the population's pressing needs. He noted that J&K is no longer the region of the 1990s.
Chugh stated that the BJP is growing in J&K with people joining the party, which he described as being "about safeguarding nationalism." He made these remarks after reviewing organisational matters along with BJP national general secretary B.L. Santosh, who chaired a meeting with BJP legislators in Jammu to review the party's functioning.
